GoTopRated helps you find service providers you can trust. This page explains, in plain terms, how listings are ordered and what factors influence a provider's position and rating on our platform.

Our Ranking Philosophy
Our goal is to surface providers who reliably do good work, communicate clearly, and treat customers fairly. Rankings are calculated from a combination of objective signals rather than a single score, so no one factor can guarantee a top position.
Rankings are recalculated on an ongoing basis as new reviews, verification updates, and activity data come in, so a provider's position can change over time.
Ranking Factors
The following factors are considered when ordering providers within a category or city:
Verification Status
Providers that have completed our verification process — including business licensing, insurance, and identity checks — are prioritized over unverified listings.
Customer Ratings & Reviews
A provider's average rating, review volume, and review recency all factor into ranking. See our Review Policy for how reviews are collected and moderated.
Responsiveness
How quickly and consistently a provider responds to customer inquiries submitted through GoTopRated.
Completed Jobs & Experience
The number of jobs completed through the platform and time spent as an active, verified provider.
Complaint & Dispute History
Unresolved complaints, repeated customer disputes, or policy violations negatively affect a provider's ranking and may result in removal from the platform.
Pricing Transparency
Providers who publish clear, upfront pricing information are favored over those who do not.
Sponsored & Featured Listings
From time to time, GoTopRated may display sponsored or featured listings. These are always clearly labeled as "Featured" or "Sponsored" and are shown separately from, or alongside, organic ranking results — they do not replace or alter a provider's underlying rank score.
Payment for a sponsored placement never changes a provider's verification status, rating, or review content.
What We Don't Do
- We do not accept payment in exchange for a higher organic rank.
- We do not remove genuine negative reviews on a provider's request.
- We do not rank unverified providers above verified ones for the same search.
How Rankings Are Updated
Ranking factors are recalculated automatically as new data is received — for example, when a new review is published, a verification is renewed, or a provider's response times change. There is no fixed schedule; updates happen on a rolling basis.
Reporting a Ranking Concern
If you believe a listing is ranked inappropriately — for example, due to suspected fake reviews or a misrepresented verification status — please contact us so we can investigate.
Changes to This Policy
We may update our ranking methodology over time to improve the accuracy and fairness of results. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
